Hypnotherapy for Trauma in Tampa | Monica Obando, CCHt

Trauma-informed clinical hypnotherapy for the subconscious patterns and nervous system responses stored from past experiences.

Trauma does not stay in the past. The experience may have ended, but the nervous system response often continues to run years or decades later, shaping how you react to situations that have nothing to do with the original event. This is not weakness. It is physiology. And it is the kind of pattern that often does not resolve through insight alone.

I am Monica Obando, CCHt, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Lutz, Florida, serving clients in Tampa and worldwide through online sessions. My clinical practice includes trauma-informed hypnotherapy for the subconscious patterns and nervous system dysregulation that past experiences can leave behind.

What Trauma Does to the Nervous System

At the time of a difficult experience, your nervous system does what it was designed to do. It activates to protect you. It stores information about the context so you can recognize similar situations in the future. It installs patterns to keep you safe.

What was adaptive in the moment often becomes limiting once the actual threat is gone. Your nervous system continues to respond as if the original situation is still present. You may experience:

None of this is a character flaw. It is a nervous system still doing a job it no longer needs to do.

Why Hypnotherapy Works With Trauma Patterns

Trauma is stored in the body and the subconscious, not primarily in cognition. That is why people can know their history completely, understand how it affected them, do years of talk therapy, and still find the same reactions showing up.

Clinical hypnotherapy accesses the subconscious directly, in the state where the pattern was formed. From that state, the pattern can update. Not forgotten, not erased, but no longer running the show.

My approach is trauma-informed. That means:

Important: If you are experiencing active crisis, suicidal thoughts, severe PTSD symptoms, or are not currently stable, clinical hypnotherapy is not the right first step. Please reach out to a licensed mental health professional, your physician, or crisis services first. Hypnotherapy works best as part of a stable support structure, not as a replacement for medical or psychiatric care.

What Clinical Hypnotherapy Addresses

The nervous system pattern

Clinical hypnosis is itself a nervous system regulating practice. Repeated sessions teach your body that downregulation is safe, available, and sustainable.

The subconscious belief underneath

Difficult experiences often install beliefs about yourself, other people, and the world. We find them, meet them, and allow them to update.

The protective strategy

Every post-trauma pattern is trying to protect you from something that was once a real danger. We honor what it was built for and update what it is doing now.

The integration

My approach integrates cognitive hypnotherapy methods alongside subconscious work, allowing the shifts to anchor at both levels.

What to Expect

Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes. You remain aware throughout. You cannot be made to do or recall anything your system is not ready for. The experience is more like deep focus than losing consciousness.

Most clients report shifts in reactivity and nervous system baseline within the first few sessions. Deeper work on specific patterns often resolves substantively over four to eight focused sessions. Each client's work is shaped by what they bring and what their subconscious presents, not a fixed protocol.

Sessions are available in-person at my Lutz office or online worldwide. Spanish-speaking clients can book hipnoterapia en español.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to talk about what happened?

No. Clinical hypnotherapy works with the pattern and the nervous system state, not with narrative recall. You never have to describe or relive specific events to receive meaningful benefit from this work.

Is hypnotherapy a replacement for trauma therapy with a licensed therapist?

No. Clinical hypnotherapy is a complementary modality, not a replacement for licensed trauma therapy, psychiatric care, or crisis services. Many of my clients work with a therapist or physician alongside hypnotherapy. If you are not currently stable or are in active crisis, please reach out to appropriate services first.

Will I remember everything from the session?

Yes. Clinical hypnosis is a state of focused awareness, not unconsciousness. You remain present throughout and remember the session afterward.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients see meaningful nervous system shift within the first few sessions. Deeper pattern work on specific traumas often resolves substantively over four to eight focused sessions. We discuss what makes sense for your specific situation during the free consultation.

Is this covered by insurance?

Clinical hypnotherapy sessions are not typically covered by insurance. A superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement, though coverage is not guaranteed.

What if I do not remember the original experience clearly?

Many clients come to this work carrying patterns from experiences they only partially remember or that happened before they had explicit memory. The pattern work does not require clear recall. The subconscious knows what it holds.
