Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Tampa | Monica Obando, CCHt

Clinical hypnotherapy for the subconscious patterns and nervous system responses underneath chronic anxiety.

If you have tried talk therapy, mindfulness, journaling, breath work, and the right books, and anxiety still shows up in the same situations, that is not because you are not trying hard enough. It is because anxiety does not live where thinking can reach it. It lives in the subconscious and in the nervous system. That is where clinical hypnotherapy works.

I am Monica Obando, CCHt, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Lutz, Florida, serving clients in Tampa and worldwide through online sessions. My clinical practice focuses on the patterns that keep high-functioning adults stuck in cycles their conscious effort cannot resolve.

What Anxiety Actually Is

Anxiety is not weakness. It is not overreaction. It is not a thinking problem waiting to be reasoned through.

Clinically, anxiety is a nervous system state. Your body has learned, often very early in life, that certain situations require vigilance. Over time, the pattern expands. More situations activate it. More subtle triggers set it off. Eventually, the baseline shifts and the vigilance never fully turns off.

Common presentations I work with include:

Why Insight Alone Does Not Resolve It

You can know exactly why you feel the way you feel. You can name the family dynamic that created the pattern. You can trace it back to childhood. You can read every book on anxiety and understand each one.

And still find yourself reacting the same way in the same situations.

That is because the anxiety pattern is not stored in the thinking part of your brain. It is stored in the subconscious and the autonomic nervous system. Those systems were not designed to update through logic. They update through experience, in states that are different from everyday waking consciousness.

That is what clinical hypnotherapy does. It creates the state in which the pattern can actually change.

What Clinical Hypnotherapy Addresses

In clinical practice, hypnotherapy for anxiety works on multiple levels at once:

The subconscious belief underneath

Every chronic anxiety pattern has a belief at its root. Something like "I am not safe," "I will be judged," "If I let my guard down, something will happen." We find it, meet it, and allow it to update.

The nervous system state

Clinical hypnosis is itself a nervous system regulating practice. Repeated sessions teach your body that downregulation is safe, available, and sustainable.

The subconscious strategy

The pattern is trying to protect you from something. We honor what it was built for and update what it is doing now.

The integration with cognitive insight

This is where my approach integrates cognitive hypnotherapy methods, allowing the shift at the subconscious level to anchor at the conscious level too.

What to Expect

Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes. You remain aware throughout. You cannot be made to say or do anything against your will. The experience is more like deep focus than losing consciousness.

Most clients report shifts within the first two sessions. Deeper patterns often resolve substantively over four to six focused sessions. Each client's work is shaped by what they bring, not a fixed protocol.

Sessions are available in-person at my Lutz office or online worldwide. Spanish-speaking clients can book hipnoterapia en español.

For Senior Leaders: The Peak State Protocol

If you are a Director, VP, or senior Consultant whose anxiety is tied to high-functioning burnout, performance pressure, or the demands of a role that requires more than your nervous system can sustainably provide, I offer a dedicated six-week clinical program called The Peak State Protocol. Enrollment is limited to four clients per quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is hypnotherapy different from CBT or talk therapy for anxiety?

Cognitive-behavioral therapy and talk therapy work at the conscious level, where you examine thought patterns and develop strategies. These approaches have real value. Clinical hypnotherapy addresses the subconscious and nervous system where anxiety is actually stored, which is why it often reaches patterns that conscious work has not resolved. The two approaches are complementary, not opposed.

Can hypnotherapy replace my anxiety medication?

Decisions about medication are between you and your prescribing provider. Clinical hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical or psychiatric care. Many of my clients work with their physicians on medication decisions while doing hypnotherapy for the underlying pattern.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients see meaningful shift within four to six focused sessions. Some patterns resolve more quickly. More complex or layered presentations may take longer. We discuss what makes sense for your specific situation during the free consultation.

What happens in a session?

We start with conversation about what you are moving through. I guide you into a focused, relaxed state using clinical hypnosis. We work with the pattern at the subconscious level. You return to full awareness and we debrief. Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes.

Is this covered by insurance?

Clinical hypnotherapy sessions are not typically covered by insurance. A superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement, though coverage is not guaranteed.

What if my anxiety is tied to past trauma?

Much chronic anxiety is. My approach is trauma-informed and I work gently with these patterns. For clients whose primary concern is trauma work, we may focus there directly. We will discuss the right approach during the consultation.
