Clinical hypnotherapy for athletes and high-performing sportspeople working at the subconscious level where performance patterns actually live.
You have done the training. You know the mechanics. You have put in the hours. And something still shows up in the moments that matter most: the hesitation before the serve, the tightness at the start line, the overthinking in the final minutes, the pattern that keeps appearing in high-stakes competition even though it has nothing to do with your physical preparation.
That is not a mindset problem waiting for one more motivational quote. It is a subconscious pattern, stored in the nervous system, that activates when the pressure crosses a certain threshold. Clinical hypnotherapy works at that level.
I am Monica Obando, CCHt, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Lutz, Florida, serving athletes and sportspeople in Tampa and worldwide through online sessions. My clinical hypnotherapy practice includes work with high-performing athletes who have reached a level where mental and nervous system patterns are the next frontier.

The nervous system activation that overrides preparation in high-stakes moments. Pre-competition anxiety that disrupts sleep, focus, or confidence. In-competition anxiety that pulls you out of flow.
The ability to stay present through long matches, long events, or extended training blocks. Clearing the mental noise that competes with execution.
The subconscious beliefs that cap performance even after conscious work on confidence has done its part. The patterns that activate when you are winning, when you are losing, or when expectations rise.
The capacity to downshift between training, competition, and rest. The subconscious patterns that keep you activated when your body needs to recover.
The mental and nervous system patterns that can either accelerate return to sport or complicate it. Working with the subconscious during physical recovery while medical care handles the body.
The pattern that only shows up at a specific moment: the second serve, the free throw line, the final mile, the mount, the jump. The subconscious pattern underneath the specific block.
Shifts between levels of competition, retirement from sport, injury-forced changes, or integrating athletic identity with the rest of life.
My clients in this area range widely:
Most athletes have already encountered sports psychology, mental training apps, visualization protocols, mindfulness practices, and books on peak performance. These approaches have real value and often produce real gains.
When they do not produce the shift you are looking for, it is usually because the pattern you are working with is sitting at a level deeper than conscious practice can reach. The subconscious and the nervous system respond to state change, not to repetition of ideas. Clinical hypnotherapy accesses that state.
This is complementary work, not a replacement for your coach, your trainer, your sports psychologist, or your medical team. Those relationships handle their layers. This work handles the subconscious layer underneath.
We begin with conversation about your sport, your level, what pattern you are working with, and what the current frontier of your mental and performance work actually is. If you have a coach, mental trainer, or sports psychologist, we discuss how this work fits with that support.
Clinical hypnosis allows us to work at the level where the performance pattern is actually stored. You remain aware throughout, in control, and able to speak or end the session at any time.
Depending on what you bring, this may involve updating the subconscious belief underneath the pattern, regulating the nervous system response that activates in the moment, rehearsing the state you want to perform from, or addressing earlier experiences that installed the pattern in the first place.
Between sessions, you take the work into training and competition. We then look at how the pattern has shifted and work with what remains.

My work is not about fixing you. It is about clearing what is in the way of who you already are.
No. Sports psychology is a licensed specialty practiced by psychologists and licensed counselors. Clinical hypnotherapy is a distinct modality that works at the subconscious and nervous system level. The two approaches are complementary, not interchangeable. Many of my athlete clients work with a sports psychologist alongside this work.
No. I do not promise specific athletic outcomes. Performance depends on many factors including training, strategy, physical condition, competition, and factors outside anyone's control. What clinical hypnotherapy offers is work on the subconscious patterns that may be limiting your performance underneath those other factors.
Most athletes work with me in short, focused series. Specific performance blocks often shift within three to five sessions. Broader work on confidence, nervous system regulation, or long-standing patterns may take longer. We discuss timing during the free consultation.
Yes. In fact, many athletes come to this work during active competition. Online sessions and short, focused work make it compatible with heavy training and travel schedules.
Clinical hypnotherapy can support the mental and nervous system side of injury recovery while your medical team handles the physical side. We never work in place of medical care. We work alongside it.
Clinical hypnotherapy sessions are not typically covered by insurance. A superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement, though coverage is not guaranteed.
If you have put in the physical work, done the mental training, and something is still showing up in the moments that matter most, the pattern is not sitting at the level you have been training. Clinical hypnotherapy works where it is.
A free 30-minute consultation is the right first step. We will talk about your sport, your level, your current frontier, and whether this work is the right fit.
