Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss in Tampa | Monica Obando, CCHt

Clinical hypnotherapy for the subconscious patterns driving eating behaviors, not another diet.

You know what to eat. You know what to avoid. You have the information. You have probably tried most of the plans at least once. And something keeps overriding the plan, usually at a specific time of day, in a specific emotional state, around a specific situation.

That is not a willpower problem. It is a subconscious pattern. And subconscious patterns do not change through more information or more discipline. They change through subconscious work.

I am Monica Obando, CCHt, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Lutz, Florida, serving clients in Tampa and worldwide through online sessions. My clinical practice focuses on the subconscious patterns and nervous system responses that keep adults stuck in behaviors their conscious intention cannot override.

What Clinical Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss Actually Addresses

I do not provide nutrition counseling, meal plans, or medical weight loss treatment. Those are important and belong with qualified professionals in those fields. What clinical hypnotherapy addresses is different: the subconscious patterns that make sustainable change so difficult for so many people.

Common patterns I work with include:

Why Diets Alone Do Not Resolve the Pattern

Diets work at the behavioral level. Eat this, avoid that, in these quantities, on this schedule. For some people and some seasons, that is enough. For many others, the behavioral layer is not the layer where the problem lives.

If food is doing a job in your life beyond nutrition, if it is regulating your nervous system or soothing emotional states, no amount of discipline will replace what the food is providing. The subconscious will restore the pattern because the pattern is still useful to it.

The work is not to override the pattern. The work is to update what the subconscious is using food to accomplish, so the behavior no longer has to carry that job.

What the Work Looks Like

The subconscious drivers

We identify what role food is playing beyond nutrition. Not through guesswork, through accessing the subconscious directly.

The emotional regulation

If food is doing nervous system work, we build other capacity for that work. Hypnotherapy is itself a nervous system regulating practice, so this happens partly through the sessions themselves.

The underlying beliefs

Beliefs about your body, your worth, your capacity for change, your deservingness. These often predate the eating pattern by decades. We find them and allow them to update.

The self-sabotage pattern

Progress often activates its own resistance. We work with that resistance rather than trying to force past it.

Important: If you are experiencing an active eating disorder, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, or related conditions, clinical hypnotherapy with me is not the right first step. These conditions require specialized care from licensed clinicians trained in eating disorders. Please reach out to the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline or a qualified eating disorder professional for appropriate support.

What to Expect

Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes. You remain aware throughout. You cannot be made to do or commit to anything that your subconscious is not aligned with. The experience is more like deep focus than losing consciousness.

Weight loss hypnotherapy is typically delivered as a series of sessions, not a single session. Most clients work with me over four to eight focused sessions, with the subconscious changes continuing to unfold between sessions.

I do not promise specific weight loss numbers or timelines. What I offer is clinical work on the patterns that have made sustainable change difficult. The actual results depend on many factors, including the pattern itself, the degree of other life stressors, and the integration of lifestyle changes.

Sessions are available in-person at my Lutz office or online worldwide. Spanish-speaking clients can book hipnoterapia en español.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose weight if I do hypnotherapy?

I do not promise specific weight loss outcomes. What I offer is clinical work on the subconscious patterns that have made sustainable change difficult. Many clients experience meaningful behavior change that supports their weight loss efforts over time. The actual results depend on your specific pattern, your lifestyle choices, and other factors.

How is this different from a nutrition plan or diet program?

Diets and nutrition plans address the behavioral layer: what to eat, when, and how much. Clinical hypnotherapy addresses the subconscious layer: the patterns, beliefs, and emotional regulation functions that food may be playing in your life. The two are complementary. Hypnotherapy is often what makes a nutrition plan actually sustainable.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients work with me over four to eight focused sessions. Some patterns resolve more quickly. More complex or layered presentations may take longer. We discuss what makes sense for your specific situation during the free consultation.

What happens in a session?

We start with conversation about what you are moving through and the specific patterns we are working with. I guide you into a focused, relaxed state using clinical hypnosis. We work with the pattern at the subconscious level. You return to full awareness and we debrief.

Is this covered by insurance?

Clinical hypnotherapy sessions are not typically covered by insurance. A superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement, though coverage is not guaranteed.

Can I do this alongside working with a nutritionist or doctor?

Yes. Many of my weight loss clients work with physicians, nutritionists, trainers, or other professionals alongside hypnotherapy. The approaches work together well, since each addresses a different layer.
